Glyconutrients Cancer

Evidence from Recent Studies

Recent studies have shown that two Glyconutrients N-acetylglucosamine and GlcNAc are deterrents for the growth of cancerous cells and a possible relief for cancer patients. The N-acetylglucosamine predominantly available in mothers milk boosts the immune system and GalNAc slows the growth of tumors. Both these glyconutrients are also found in a red algae found in Japan called Dumontiaceae.

Galactose found in pectins of fruit and vegetables and lactose found in dairy products also have properties that serve to inhibit tumor growth. Tumor cells secrete Transforming Growth Factor Beta TGF-b which are highly reactive and quickly multiplying molecules in the cells that render the immune system of healthy cells ineffectual and inactive. Recent research suggests that the secretion of these radicals occurs because of deficiencies in proper communication between healthy cells. Glyconutrients contain proteins which research has shown send signals between cells. When healthy cells have the resources to communicate through proper channells growth of tumors can be effectively inhibited.

Glycobiology Still Under Review

As standard medical practice has not yet accepted glycobiology as a conclusive science but a science that is still in the stages of early research, if you require accepted forms of glyconutrients, you will have to turn to nature. Eating fruits and vegetables that are left to naturally ripen on the plant and other glyconutrient sources contained in dairy foods can help you to fight the growth of tumors in their early stages. However, it is essential that you keep in mind that glyconutrients are not cures. Glyconutrients help to restore the immunity that the body has lost. Today autoimmune diseases are also deemed diseases with no cure. Researchers hope that glyconutrients are the answer to enhanced immunity through proper communication of healthy cells. It is hoped that after their research is complete, a patient will not have to endure what cannot be cured.

Commercially Produced Glyconutrients are Available

Glyconutrients are now available commercially in capsule form. Companies manufacturing these glyconutrient supplements advertise them as miracles of modern medicine. The FDA has not, however given sanction to these supplements as acceptable drugs to help cancer patients obtain relief. Many patients claim that the FDA and other medical journals are merely vary of novelty. It is too early to sensationalize the benefits of glyconutrients on the human immune system. So far, concentrated glyconutrients are contained in nutritional supplements. Nutritional Supplements that carry the disclaimer that they have no curative effect do not come under the overview of the FDA. The future may see these supplements being treated with the same fanfare as Vitamin C by the medical community but at this stage further evidence and conclusive proof are being awaited. No controlled studies are available as of now to show the benefits of glyconutrient supplements for cancer patients. It is still doubtful whether they are mere marketing gimmicks or whether these capsules are indeed offering tomorrow's revolution today. It is still the rule without exception that a healthy diet of natural foods is preferable to quick acting supplements.

Research Continues on the Effects of Glycobiology

While the effects of the science of glycobiology are reported only in obscure medical journals it is by no means an obscure science. Researchers have found considerable success in reviving the immunity of cells using glyconutrients. They are proving to be the communication specialists that send the right signals so that the cell army of the body can fight disease and degeneration and it is believed that glyconutrients will have the same importance that radio signals had for communication in conventional armies.
